The picture I had for Wordless Wednesday this week is this birds nest. Many of you guessed it, it is on our house. Right above our porch. Last year when we moved in there was one in the same place. I hate to share this story because everyone loved seeing this little bird. There were five baby birds in all in the nest.
Last week my son and his friend innocently, not knowing what they were doing used there water guns to spray the nest. A few minutes later the nest with the five baby birds dropped to the ground one bird died right away. I was so upset. I was upset because I knew these birds were going to die and my son had a hand in it. Maybe I was overracting but I was really horrified. I even cried over it! My son was lectured and I brought him to tears trying to get it through to him what he had done to the bird family!
So we watched the birds. I contemplated bring them in or called the wild animal people (the ones who take care of them). I read on the Internet that if they had feathers (which they all did) they could survive. It stated the mom and dad birds will feed them on the ground and we would just need to keep kids and animals away from them. We went and checked on the birds several times throughout the afternoon. They seemed to be okay and the mom and dad birds were with them often! After dinner my husband went to check on them and they were all gone! I had high hopes that the mom and dad bird moved them somehow! The next day my six year old daughter came and that the neighbor girls took them. That made me so sad because then I knew the baby birds were sure to die!
So that is the store behind this picture. This picture was taken a week before the incident! I am sorry to make a picture like this so sad but it is. We don’t have any animals at our house due to allergies so I guess I felt like these little birds were ours! Okay next week I will have a happier Wordless Wednesday and Tell Me Thursday!

Awww, that is sad! We’ve had birds come back each year for about 5 years now and build a nest in the same spot. Hopefully yours will come back, too!

I know how upsetting that must have been. I had a bird nest on my porch the first year I moved in and I watched several hatchlings, but I finally had to take the nest down (I waited until there weren’t any more babies), because they were making a mess out of my porch. It was painful taking the nest down, but I felt it had to be done for “sanitary” reasons.
Thank you for sharing your story, even thought it was a sad one.

Happens. Kids are kids, they didn’t know.
Hey, I like that Tell Me Thursday idea. But it is hard for me to fight the urge not to say it on Wednesday. :p

I’m sooo sad. We saw 2 of our 4 birds hopping on the ground around the nest after a few days – they were so cute – and were crowding each other out. Kids are so fascinated with living creatures and it’s hard to get them to understand gentleness… sigh
