Everyday I wake up and think “I have so much to do!” This has been the case for months now for me! My biggest problem is that I am suffering from information overload! I have gotten myself so deep into doing this and doing that, that my activities are not focused on being profitable. That is why I am in this business. I am not here to make all kind of friends and fill my social calendar! Of course I do enjoy the friends I have met since I started blogging. But again this is not the reason I began my Journey! Now this is not the first time I have gotten overwhelmed.
Overcoming Information Overload
So here is my problem…I love to do it myself and figure things out on my own! I like to be very independent and self-reliant. So far that is not working out for me. Part of my problem too is that when I do finally reach out to someone to get help they do not respond. Now that is a general statement. Only recently this happened! I remember when I was taking this blog from Blogger to WordPress. I had no clue how to do it and I reached out to Jendi from Jendi’s Journal and she was so sweet and pointed me in the right direction! I will forever be grateful for that!
So here is what I have gotten myself into. I am a membership of two PLR sites. I am a member of two membership forums (one free and one paid). I am a member of two programs that provide lessons each week. I have this blog and I am working on a new affiliate blog. Last but not least I am working on the 100 articles in 100 days Challenge (I am six articles behind).
So let me break it down even further.
I am going to cancel my membership to the plr sites because it is doing me no good at this time! The membership sites I belong to are Mom Masterminds! and Self Starter Weekly Tips, Elite group. I love both of these. With my blog internship with Kelly McCausey she gave me a free membership to Mom Masterminds. I have not been able to take part in the forum or dive into the learning center like I would want to because of my current dilema with information overload! I started the SSWT Elite group which is run by Lynn Terry. I absolutely love, love, love this group! I will not give up either membership. Next I belong to Jimmy D. Brown’s Affiliatenaire. This is a guide step by step to help me get my affiliate website up and going. I love it and literally it takes me about 2-3 hours a week to do the assignment (very minimal). I pay for this for 12 months and then I am done. My other membership is Blog Evangelists this teaching me the ins and outs of how to actually run my blog from the inside out. This is run by Kelly McCausey and Lynette Chandler. They also give lessons once or twice a week for 12 months. When the 12 months is up I do not have to pay the membership fee any longer. Now I started this at the end of May and have not read a lesson so far. I have kept every single one and I know that they are valuable but I have, again been to busy to touch them!
So now I have this blog which I have been consistent in writing in. I really enjoy but of course it does take up my time. I am working on a blog currently that will be about walking. It is an affiliate site that I am excited about. The last thing is the articles I am writing for the 100 articles in 100 day challenge. I am writing about walking. This is intended to drive traffic to my affiliate website!
Okay when I look at it here things don’t look so daunting!
But…I am not done! Today I had over 500 blog posts ready and waiting for me to read. That took me a few hours to get through (talk about information overload)! I check my email (all five of them) too much. I do these things before I do the important profitable things. Have you ever seen the trick where you have a mason jar and fill it with water then try to add a bunch of rocks. It doesn’t work!! But if you put the rocks in first then add the water, it all seems to fit! I really think that is my problem. I can do with out some of this information but at the same time if I get my posts and the work on my blogs done first I will be able to fit it all in. If by chance I can’t fit it all it that is okay, because I will have the most important things done first. This way when my daughter says “Can I read to you, Mom?” I can say ” Sure lets go sit down on the couch and read!”. I think everyone will feel better if I flip flop things a bit!
So what are you to do?
Here is where I am suppose to give you a call to action right? Right! The thing is, is I didn’t find a magic pill to treat my Information Overload! I just have to evaluate what my priorities are and what I want in life. Today I read a blog post that Lynn Terry wrote the other day about the life she is living because of success in internet marketing. If my call to action is anything it would be read that post and dream and readjust your life accordingly! I am!!

Danielle – this is EXACTLY where I have been floundering myself! I LOVE your post and your attitude here!
Despite all the advice, “shoulds” and “how-to’s” for developing a profitable blog or website – sigh – I don’t have all the time it takes yet. I have been cutting back on a variety of social networks. I have been quitting memberships, too.
I am keeping MomMasterminds. FAR too valuable. I am definitely keeping BlogEvangelists! WOW! I’m reading the articles, but know that now is not the time to put things into action.
I am sticking with Twitter & MomBloggersClub, too, as well as some Christian women websites I just LOVE for personal inspiration, growth, and some business help.
I no longer have PLR memberships, but am using some articles which provides more time for other things.
I think it’s not impossible – but really difficult – to build any kind of business with really young children around. Older kids who can be entertained and entertain themselves makes for some different circumstances. I’m not making excuses – because my priorities are my FAMILY first.
But I hate the feeling I have at the end of a day when I realize I didn’t spend 5 minutes with my girls OR finish my laundry – and didn’t even tackle all of the projects on my work list, either. I get distracted and overwhelmed by the length of my lists – so I’m whittling them down in a serious way and trying to focus on ONE thing at time. Taking advantage of naptime or early bedtimes to finish online stuff I need to.
If I can categorize my priorities (Family, Home, Work) and break them into BLOCKS of time, that seems to work better in accomplishing more within each category. That helps.
GOOD FOR YOU! Can’t wait to read more!

I think as mom’s we all have to prioritize or we won’t be able to get anything done! Even when we do prioritize I think we always (at least I do) feel like you have done enough!
