ttbigbuttonI have been really busy this past week and have not attended to my kitchen duties like I should.  My fabulous husband makes us dinner almost every night.  I made dinner on Sunday and left this mess (ontop of what was already there).  So here it is to begin with:

So just like I said in my Miracle Monday post we went to the cemetery.  Our family loves to go to cemeteries.  I know some people will think that is morbid but we love it.  Some of the reasons we love the cemetery is because it is so peaceful and quiet.  It is a great place to exercise.  It is also just a great place to be alone with your thought.  I am sure my love of cemeteries also stems from my love of genealogy/family history.  The headstone represent real people to me that have lived lives.  Their lives may have short, long, happy or sad.  They may have accomplished a lot or very little.  This doesn’t matter at all!  All that matters is they lived!

We have never lived close to a cemetery that family is buried in. Growing up I lived in Washington state.  My dad is from Idaho and mom is from England.  So in the little town I grew up in there wasn’t any family buried there.  When my husband and I moved to Ohio my kids learned to love cemeteries because I would go exercise there.  There was a small Catholic cemetery that was about a half mile from the house and there was a big beautiful city cemetery.  I will never forget being overdue with my second daughter and walking the rolling hills of the city cemetery.  This cemetery was a mixture of very old and new.  It had a few ponds, some ducks and geese and fountains.  The best part of the cemetery were the great big trees.  Last spring we even went for one last walk there (I was pregnant again) before we moved. My laptop is Four and a half years old!

I know that is old by some standards. It doesn’t have a big hard drive, only 50 GB. About three weeks ago I was having major issues with it. I called a local computer guy (who is great by the way) and he came to my house (love that). He ended up having to take it for a few days to resolve the issues. I had used up so much space on the hard drive that it kept quitting on me. Before he took the computer I bought a portable external hard drive called Seagate FreeAgent Go 320 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive-Black ST903203FAA2E1-RK. So my computer guy Mark loaded all my data onto the FreeAgent Go. I was so happy and everything was working great when I got it back. Now to my frustration. The hard drive didn’t not come with a long USB cord and being a mom I have to get up quickly at times and so I dropped the FreeAgent Go a few times. About four days ago it stopped working! I called Mark and he said it wasn’t a good thing! He is coming this afternoon to see if he can get it to work!

Why do they not make a portable hard drive more durable?!!

So I ask myself and Mark for that matter! Why do they not make a portable hard drive more durable?!! When it is portable it will get dropped. I have dropped my laptop on more than one occasion and it has not quit working! Mark suggested I buy another external hard drive one like this: Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 1 TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive WDH1U10000N. This is one that is not portable and it could be a back up for all of my data. I think this is a great idea but again my frustration why should I have to have another hard drive!

Panicked!

Now one of the reason I feel a little panicked is because I am an avid genealogist. I have collected my family history for 25 years! I have some back up copies but…not the most recent information I have collected! The good thing is that the FreeAgent Go is under warranty until 2014 and I can have my data retrieved. I haven’t found out how long that will take but I anticipate it will take a month or longer to send it away and have them retrieve my data!

Update!

I will keep you posted on what happens! I do have an update I promised a week or so ago. I have finally tested out the headset that I purchased for my husband Charles’ podcast. I bought the Plantronics Foldable USB Stereo Headset (Optimized for Laptop Use) (Audio 470 USB). I tried it yesterday and it works great! I sat down and I had my 2 1/2 year old sing a song. She was at my knee and you could barely hear her. So I believe the noise canceling with be perfect. Most importantly I didn’t sound like I was in a tunnel! I would recommend if for anyone!

Okay so I am very passionate about Family History, which is otherwise known as Genealogy. I have loved it for years now. I have decided I am going to do a podcast and a blog on the subject. The idea is still being mulled over in my head. I am not sure what kind of angle I am going to have on it but I have decided this is what I will do. I am so excited about it. I am still learning things I can incorporate into having this kind of podcast and blog. If anyone has ideas for me on this subject let me know! I would love to have input!

The headset is suppose to be coming today. I am excited to try it out and see how it works. We are moving forward and should have Charles and Kirk podcasting within the next few weeks!
