I have been looking for ways to increase my traffic in the niches that I am working in.  I have learned a lot over the past few months year.  I have learned about bookmarking, link building, social media, press releases, article marketing but the one thing that has really brought income to me is Squidoo!  I first discovered it through a post by Tiffany Washko called Seasonal Affiliate Sales.  I purchased the Info Product Killer after reading her post.  Next that lead me to Tiffany Dow and Squidoo! Tiffany Dow has a fabulous book out called Social Networking on Squidoo and she uses Squidoo in combination with Info Product Killer (IPK).

Why am I telling you all of this?

I am sharing this with you because after I followed Tiffany’s advice on how to create Squidoo lenses with the IPK formula I made money!  It was so exciting because I would open up my Amazon account everyday and I would see more and more sales!

At the beginning of this month Tiffany started a 52 week Amazon Lens Challenge.  The challenge is to create Squidoo lenses every week based on a Amazon best seller! I have been doing this and having great fun.  We have a Facebook page that we keep track of each other and our lenses in.  Tiffany is there to offer encouragement and help!

Again why am I sharing this?

If you have been following my Saturday accountability post you will have noticed that I have been working on an auto responder for this blog.  I have been planning this for a few months but since I have been more focused and working on my goals each week.  I have finally finished it.  Okay I haven’t finished it but I am getting there.  I have many weeks worth all set up!  If you look to the right you will notice I have a subscription box.

An Easy Way to Get Blogging & Earning with Your Recipes

Having a Web log, or ”Blogging” as it’s more commonly called, is a great way to share information with others in a public forum, by posting comments on a (often free) website.

Blogs are easy to build; even a novice can set one up in just an hour or less. With free applications like Google’s “Blogger” (blogger.com) or the easy to use Wordpress (Wordress.com), a simple blog can be put together that will highlight your thoughts and images. A recipe blog is where you can post your favorite family recipes, restaurant secrets or other popular “dishes” about the world of cooking. It’s perfect for people who have tried recipes and thought they could do better. Or those who have sampled restaurant cooking and found a favorite they’d like to share. Have you heard about the affiliate marketing tax laws that certain states are trying to create? I have been following the buzz around the internet about it the pass few weeks I wanted to share some links that explain it a bit more than I could articulate!

First of Lynn Terry weighs in on it by describing what is happening and giving an overall view of it! Check out her post on how these laws are causing major issues for affiliate marketers in the United States! Lynn Terry has been in business for thirteen years online.  She knows her stuff.  When I first found out about these laws I wondered what she had to say.  Don’t just read her post either, read the comments.  They can give you a different perspective on what people think!  I really liked Bob “the teacher”’s comments!

Next this is a link to question and answers on the digital tax that is being imposed on digital products sold by sellers in Washington State. Now this is my home state and I am disappointed that this has happened.  I really feel that if there is going to be a tax on digital products make it for the whole country!  I know that states handle there own sales tax and often it goes down as far as the county or city level to designate the rates.  I understand that but don’t penalize sellers in Washington!  I admit I am a frugal shopper.  If I had a choice between buying something from someone that lives in Wasthington and be taxed or purchasing from someone from Oregon, I would go with Oregon!

Rosalind Gardner another affiliate marketer with a lot of history online, reported on her blog that Overstock is reinstating California affiliates.  This is due to the Governor stating that he would reject the law.  Yeah for those affiliates in California!  A victory!

This last post is by an affiliate marketer by the name of Jerry West.  He is in North Carolina where the affiliates are being hit hard!  He has already lost forty percent of his income because of these silly laws! If you don’t read any of the other posts I hope you read this one and sign the petition!

Okay here is my take on it all. I will make it short and sweet.  As someone just getting started in affiliate marketing this is very disappointing.  I have wanted to participate in affiliate marketing since 2003 when I first purchased the Super Affiliate Handbook by Rosalind Gardner!  I really feel like the lawmakers don’t get it!  This will hurt the local economy more than it will help through taxes.  It is so frustrating to realize that these laws could be a possibility for each state!  Do something about this, even if it not affecting your state now, be proactive and call your representatives!  Let them know what you make and how this could affect the local economy.  This is a time to not just stand still!  Sign that petition and let your voice be heard!
